Developing a Successful Website (Part 1)
Thursday October 29, 2009 by Nick Niesen.

Having and maintaining a successful website takes more then a set-it and forget-it attitude. Maintaining a successful website that stands out from your competition and attracts a broad audience is and should be treated as an on-going process. In this process you might conceptualize a number of different designs and layouts before you get it just right, even then, you should expect to make changes and revisions and additions down the road.

Allowing your website to evolve over time is one of best things you can do. As this evolution occurs, you might come up with new ideas that would make your website more attractive, user friendly and useful for visitors who stop your way. The fact is, getting everything done, all at once for your primary launch (depending on your goals) may be nearly impossible. You might have pages and pages of website content to write up describing your business and the services it offers. You might need interactive forms and dynamic applications (including mailing lists, links pages, or even members’ areas) created from scratch and installed into your site.

Take the time to develop this content, one item at a time; everything does not have to be done all at once. If you take this approach, it is my best bet that it will show after you have your finished product. The completed job should look clean and thorough rather then rough and incomplete.

Consistent installations of new content and tools will be sure to attract new visitors and help to insure repeats visits.

After you have a fair amount of content posted on your site you should begin the process of marketing your website. Your website will get absolutely no use if you do not take the time to attract an audience. The competition may be stern however with time and effort it is possible to attract an adequate audience to make the time you took developing your websites content worthwhile.

Methods of Marketing Your Website:
- Purchase Text and Banner Ads
- Develop a PPC Database and submit it to Pay-Per-Click Search Engines
- Exchanging Traffic w/ Similar Sites
- Exchanging Traffic w/ Top Site Lists
- Post messages in forums with your site link in your signature
- Reply to blog entries with your URL in your comments
- Write and Submit Articles to Article Directories
- Submit your site to web directories
- Submit your site to search engines
- Insure your site is optimized for search engines
- Purchase ads to be place in mailing lists and newsletters
- Share your links on Facebook and other social networks

Obviously you won’t be able to utilize all of these methods of advertising in your first day however in the course of weeks or months, you should be able to hit up many of these marketing methods and see a consistent increase in levels of activity on your website.

For now, let’s consider this discussion to be continued…
