I get asked this question a lot “Which game console do you think I should buy?”. Up until today, my answer to anyone in the same age group as I am has always been "XBox 360". Now, with recent price drops for the PS3, it’s lineup of new releases, touted better graphics and blue-ray player, the PS3 has nearly taken the place as my default answer. The only thing holding me back here is the lack of true Online Interactions; Xbox Live is still king in my book. – Maybe I need to spend more time and find new friends on PlayStation Network? I have yet to add anyone…
When it all comes down to it, these two consoles (the Xbox 360 and PS3) are intense rivals, Sony is to Microsoft as Apple is to Microsoft.
Why buy an Xbox 360?
- Xbox Live is GREAT
- There is a massive number of great titles available
- Halo
- Robust Controller
- A lot of people own the Xbox 360, guaranteeing you more multi-player experiences via Xbox Live
- Xbox Live Arcade
Why buy a PS3?
- Amazing graphics for modern televisions via an HDMI cable
- Incredibly comfortable controller
- A good selection of beautifully rendered games
- Ratchet & Clank, Little Big Planet and Other PS3 Exclusives
- Blue-Ray Player
- Playstation Network is Free
- You get a lot for your money
- Great selection of games you can download
Why buy a Wii?
- Great party games, the other consoles don’t even compete in this category
- Interactive games that require use of body mechanics
- Download classic Nintendo Games right to your Wii Console
In short, If you want to be active and have fun with a group of people (2-4 players), I'd suggest buying the Wii and trying out some of their party games. These games can be incredibly fun! If you're looking for the absolute best graphics, best game play and arguably the best controller, go for the PS3. If you want the biggest selection of games, an awesome online experience and overall a very well developed console get an Xbox 360.
Alot of what console you decide to buy may also depend on your age. The Wii tends to appeal to the (family) younger (16 and Under) and older age group (45+) while the PS3 and XBox 360 compete for attention from everyone else in-between.
Really, the console that is best for you should be decided at your own discretion. It all depends on what you are looking to get out of your gaming experience. Where I prefer to play an in-depth RPG (Xbox or PS3) for 80+ hours, you might be more inclined to want to pickup and do some bowling or table tennis (Wii) every now and then.
